What Makes Me Smile

by Eva @ Committed2Nutrition on August 31, 2012

Hello, Everyone! Happy Labor Day Weekend! I am going to share with you a post I wrote as a guest blogger over at Beanie Bumbes. This will give you a little more insight into my life, for those of you who missed it. I am moving this weekend so blogging will have to unfortunately take a little back seat. Wishing you all a happy and safe LDW!

Here we go….

My name is Eva, and I am the blogger behind www.committed2nutrition.com. I am your Nutrition and Zumba® enthusiast – feel free to read my “About” & “Zumba Fitness” page to learn more!

I was incredibly honored and stoked when Laura asked me to write a guest post on her blog. I fell in love with her blog immediately so naturally, this was a no-brainer to say… YES I’d love to! Turns out to be a small world, because not only does Laura work near me in CT, but we have some mutual friends.  I went to High School with one of her very best friends, Frances! Don’t-cha love when that happens?!

Thanks again, Laura. Similarly, the beautiful Ms. Laura Lea is writing a guest post for my blog, as well! CHECK IT OUT.

We deciced to write about “Things That Make Us Smile”.. so without further a-do, here we go. I apologize in advance for some of the materialistic or cheesy things that cause me to grin :)

1. Nick. For anyone who follows my blog, you know how much I heart my boyfriend. He is the #1 thing that lights up my life and makes me smile every-single-day. Before Nick, people used to say how important it was to be with someone who made you laugh, and I didn’t believe that to be true. NOW? I’m a believer. He makes me laugh more than anyone I know, and now I realize how important this quality is in someone and the relationship. Let’s jus say sometimes my cheeks actually hurt from laughing so hard.  He is one of a kind, and I am the luckiest girl ever. So cheese.

How we met? Through the fabulous shipping industry (not UPS or FedEx, think OIL SHIPPING..much cooler). We do not work together, but his company does business with mine. We both went to our favorite local bar one night in Stamford, Casey’s, because we both had co-workers from each of our respective company’s going out. I was a hot mess that night (I had just taught Zumba and was persuaded to go out after) but somehow that night was one of those “and the rest is history” kind of nights. Funny because, the last thing I thought going out that night was “I am going to meet my future boyfriend”. I guess it IS true, it always happens when you least expect it.

Surprised this came before Zumba?!

Isn’t he so cute?!

2. Family. Again this comes before my beloved Z classes only because I wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for them. My parents so kindly adopted me and gave me a great life in a great town of New Canaan, CT. I am fortunate to have 3 older siblings and 5 nieces and nephews combined. I am also a god-mother to my beautiful niece Jewel McKenna, who is 8 years old. She is my little cabbage patch.

A litle excerpt into my life: I was born on Easter Sunday, April 22, 1984. I was between 6-10 weeks premature, weighing an even 4lb, and drug-addicted. I was told by my biological mom that they really weren’t sure what to expect. An emergency C-section later, and whatdayaknow – I came out a very healthy, screaming pre-mie. I only had to stay in the hospital to grow, but other than that, I shocked the dr’s and was OK. I like to say I was God’s gift to the world, LOL, since I was born on Easter :) I’m kidding, kinda.

{Note, no pictures of my father because he hates them and photo bombs every single one. And the most recent pics I have of all of us are from Christmas}

3. Zumba. OBVIOUSLY. Words can’t even express how much teaching Zumba has done for my confidence, self – esteem, and just my overall happiness on this Earth. Teaching Z has been the greatest achievement and accomplishment of my life. It was a goal I had for a while and was too scared to follow through. Geez, what was I so scared of?! I only wish I started it sooner. Regardless, I have it now.  When I have to sub out my class, I literally feel my heart ache, HA, I am so dramatic. But seriously, that is how much I love teaching it and HATE missing a class. See my Zumba Page for more of the fun details!

~Ok, now that the obvious 3 are over, let’s get into some fun & materialistic ones that make me happy, yeah?~

4. JCrew White Skinny Jeans. Yeah, that’s right. I just bought a pair this past summer, with the encouragement of Nick. Apparently guys are obsessed with girls in white jeans? This was news to me. I found the absolute best pair at JCrew and wear them almost every weekend. They are so versatile and can look dressed up AND down. What is also great, is that bleach brightens these suckers up in no time, so one wash and every stupid stain that gets on them comes out like a gem.

That is not me, obviously, as I took this from www.Jcrew.com … but you get the point. Mine are currently in the hamper awaiting a bleach bomb.

Oh here we go! Here is a pic from Saturday Night..see! I can’t get enough! sorry for the poor quality image. you get it.

5. Skin Firming Moisturizer. I only like one brand of this: Nivea. The vain part of me was first attracted to this product because of the “skin firming benefits” and I was loathing the cellulite that is still on my legs. {Yes, it’s still there, I don’t know if this works} But now I am just addicted to how it feels on my skin and it’s scent. I buy 2 bottles of this at one time because I have a fear of running out of things.

6. Make-up. I am so lame that this makes me smile, but every since I was a little girl, I watched my gorgeous grandmother “put on her face” every single morning. She looked stunning, and I knew I wanted to wear make-up in the same way. I just feel better when I wear it, and I feel like I look like a functioning human being.

I can’t go without my Bare Minerals foundation, Maybelline Mascara, Bronzer, eyeliner, and LIP GLOSS. I’m such a girl :)

7. Trader Joe’s. This really just speaks for itself, but i just love that freshly-grocery-shopped-fully-stocked-kitchen feeling. I love my TJ’s and all their amazing products, and how can I forget their prices? My wallet SUPER likes that, ha.

Look at all these amazing finds!

8. WINE. I’d be lying if I said I didn’t look forward to a glass by the time Thursday rolls around. Hey, I take off usually Sunday – Wednesday, give me a break, ha.

Had to throw a Guinness in there since it is my favorite beer :)

9. Do-it-yourself-Frozen-Yogurt. I am obsessed with all these new yogurt places popping up that are “do it yourself”. I LOVE being able to add as much of the toppings as I want. I want less yogurt and more fruit toppings, please! I have discovered Red Mango and 16 Handles . This couldn’t be more “Eva-Friendly” if I tried!

Load ‘em up!

10. Last but not least: MY FRIENDS! I had to save the best for last. I have some amazing people in my life. I am so lucky, and really don’t know what I would do without them. I have recently made some new friends that are pretty darn great, too! Ya’ll know who you are :) You can stalk my FB pages for lots and lots of pics if you wish.

So there you have it, friends! The 10 things that are making me smile on a daily basis right now. It really is the simple things in life. I tend to think I live a pretty low-maintenance life, too. All I really and truly need is Nick, family & friends, my awesome day job as an Accountant, and Zumba. When I have all of these, like I do now, I also take care of myself in the best way I know how. Primary foods at it’s finest!

Thanks so much for reading my Guest Post via the beautiful Laura Lea, and a special thank you to her myself for allotting me this opportunity! Make sure to check out her post on my blog: www.committed2nutrition.com.

Oh my gosh so many of the things on your list would be on mine too!! I’d sub zumba for running or any other fitness activity (I have NO rhythm!). We are so similar!!

Self-serve frozen yogurt places are the BEST! I have always wanted to go to a 16 handles but alas, there is not one near me. One day though :) Your list is so wonderful too, heck yes to family making me smile too!
